We are seeking a highly motivated candidate for a Research Associate or Senior Research Associate to work in a dynamic, collaborative environment using cutting edge methods and technology to unravel neurodegenerative diseases. This role is very diverse, multidisciplinary and dynamic. At the heart of our lab is a novel robotic microscopy (RM) system that can track numerous molecular features of cells over time. RM allows us to extract various types of biological information about how cells grow, mature and behave in response to candidate drugs or genetic perturbations. We then use ML approaches to extract features from our iPSC models to help identify and distinguish disease phenotypes. We have collaborations with many industries and academic groups, publish our work in high profile scientific journals, and present our work at international conferences. Responsibilities include driving the scientific goals and objectives of several projects using high throughput, human models of neurological disorders such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Parkinson’s Disease (PD). The candidate will have experience using CRISPRi, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and ideally experience with live cell imaging. Using a wide variety of tools, the candidate will help orchestrate and execute a platform to model the process of neurodegeneration. The role involves working closely with software engineers using machine learning or other approaches to phenotype disease signatures from patient cells. Requirements include MS in Biological Sciences or Engineering (required), PhD preferred, critical thinking, ability to design and execute experiments independently, strong data analysis expertise, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, molecular and cell biology expertise, at least 3 years research experience, widefield and/or confocal microscopy experience, minimum 2 years cell culture experience, and experience managing others and designing experiments. Preferred qualifications include experience in R or Python, iPSC culturing and differentiation, and live cell imaging.
